Abstract

Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella typhi. The transmission sources be through contaminated food or drink. The purpose of this study was to know the antibiotics usage in typhoid fever patients based on class, dosage form, strength, usage numbers by Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) or Defined Daily Dose (DDD) method during in 2010 and 2011. To know the suitability of antibiotics usage based on DU 90% to the Hospital Formulary in inpatient installation of Karanganyar Hospital. This research was a descriptive study with data collection retrospectively in Karanganyar Hospital in July 2012. The sample were patients of adult men and women typhoid fever in Karanganyar Hospital in 2010 and 2011 antibiotics used. The research data were the antibiotics usage for inpatients of typhoid fever patients from 2010 to 2011 from the Medical Records Institution. The data grouped and calculated by the formula established in the ATC/DDD method. Data analysis on antibiotic usage patterns using the ATC/DDD method and DU 90% segment during 2010 and 2011. The data calculated and viewed its compliance with hospital formulary. The results showed that the most widely used antibiotics in 2010 and 2011 were same i.e. from Amoxicillin class, while the smallest were Cefadroxil. Antibiotics used to treat typhoid fever of inpatients in Karanganyar Hospital in 2010 and 2011 already accordance with the Hospital Formulary. There was no change in the antibiotics usagee in adult patients of typhoid fever in 2010 and 2011, only the addition of Ampicillin usagee in Karanganyar Hospital in 2011.
