Abstract

Brotowali (TinosporacrispaL. Miers) is one of the medicinal plants used to treat diabetes mellitus. This research aims to know antidiabetic effect of combination of brotowali stem infusion and acarbose with aloxaninducted mice. Hyperglycemicanimals test divided into 7 groups. Every group contains 5 mice. Then, it was given both single and combination test for 14 days. Blood glucose levels were checked in day 4, 8 and 14 after gave test preparation. Group I as negative control was given distilled water, group II was given acarbose 0,26 mg/20 g w, group III was given single infusion of 56 mg/20 g w, while groups IV, V, and VI, VII were given combination brotowali stem infusion with acarbose dose of (42 mg:0,065 mg ; 28 mg:0,13 mg ; 14 mg:0,195 mg). Statistical data obtained by one way ANOVA (p<0.05). The result of this research showed that combination of brotowali stem infusion and acarbose could decrease blood glucose level, comparable with the oral antidiabetic medicine itself. By giving this combination, it is expected that the dose of acarbose for Diabetes Mellitus type 2 therapy could be decreased. Keywords : Tinospora crispa, acarbose, antidiabetic, infusion
