Abstract

Estuarine crocodile oil (Crocodillus porosus) is a traditional medicine used by local people to treat skin diseases such as acne, fungi, allergies, eczema, itch, tinea versicolor, scabies, ringworm and burns. According to Musdalifah (2009) Crocodillus porosus provide antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 8% on the results of KBM. This study was aimed to determine the optimum ointment base on the ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The study began by formulating ointment estuarine crocodile oil (Oleum Crocodyllus porosus) with 4 kinds of ointment bases namely hydrocarbon base, absorption base, base emulsion and water-soluble bases. The resulting ointment was physically tested including organoleptic, viscosity, dispersive power, and adhesion. The most optimum formula obtained created and tested with several concentrations of antibacterial activity using the diffusion method, using anava analysis. Optimum formula obtained was the basic of PEG ointment. Response to the physical properties of the study formula showed no significant difference. Activity of the most effective antibacterial ointment was 15 mm. Keywords: antibacterial, estuarine crocodile oil (Oleum Crocodyllus porosus), ointments, Staphylococcus aureus ATTC 25923
