Abstract
Iodine plant (Jatropha multifida L) is efficacious medicinal plants to cure various diseases; one of its pharmacological activities is as wound healer. The content of iodium leaf are saponin, flavonoid, tannin, and alkaloid. The aim of the study was to find out the effect of cream containing various concentrations of iodine leaf extract on the change of wound length and percentage of wound healing compared with the control. The extraction was conducted by maseration method using ethanol 70% as solvent. This study was carried out using 5 rabbits which were divided into 5 groups. Treatment I as a negative control (base of cream), treatment of II-IV, respectively as treatment with variation of iodine leaf extract content 10%, 20% and 40% in the cream preparation, and treatment V as positive control (betadine ointment). Each rabbit in each group were injured 5 cm long on the back using a sterile scalpel. Observations of injury were done everyday from day 0 to day 7. The measured data are the percentage of wound healing. Data was analyzed using one way ANOVA and followed by post hoc test (α=0,05). The result of the study showed that iodine leaves ethanol extract cream could heal wounds. Seen macroscopically, FIII had the best effect in healing wounds. From the result of statistical test the percentage of data recovery on day-7 showed have significant difference between groups, i.e. the negative control, FI, FII, FIII and positive control.
