Abstract
Iler leaf used in traditional medicine to treat diabetes mellitus. Increased diabetes mellitus drug combination in use of antidiabetic drugs began to be given but the combination with chemical compounds while providing other effects besides the effect of such therapy side effects. This study aims to examine the effect of a combination of 96% ethanol extract iler leaf and metformin to control blood glucose levels in traditional and minimize the side effects of oral antidiabetic drugs in order to prevent any adverse effects arising from prolonged treatment. Method of blood glucose levels is used alloxan diabetes test. Test animals were divided into 6 groups, each group consisting of 5 individuals. Group I diabetic control (CMC 05%), group II control metformin, group III iler leaf control, group IV, V, VI combination of 96% ethanol extract of the iler leaf and metformin (25%: 75%, 50% 50%, 75% : 25%). The negative control group was given with CMC-Na suspension dose 1,75 mg / 20 g BW, positive control group was given with metformin 1,3 mg/20 g BW, single control group iler leaf extract 22 mg/20 g BW. Antidiabetic effect is obtained by measuring blood glucose levels for 7 days with a interval measurements on days 1, 4, and 8 after treatment, and then performed statistical tests with one way analysis of variance was followed Tukey test, 95% confidence level. The results showed the combination of 96% ethanol extract of the iler leaf and metformin can lower blood glucose levels significantly negative with CMC-Na. The combination of ethanol extract iler leaf and benefits of treatment with metformin produces interactions that are additive which occurred the same therapeutic effect caused by a given amount of effect of each single dosage of ethanol extract of iler leaf or metformin. This shows iler leaf extract has the ability as a companion therapy. The most effective dose of his ability as a companion therapy in lowering blood glucose levels in male mice Balb / C alloxan-induced diabetes is dose combination of 96% ethanol extract of the iler leaf and metformin (0,5:0,5) in hopes of reducing drug side effects oral antidiabetic.
