Abstract
Kesambi stem bark contains alkaloids, saponins, tannins and triterpenoids. Kesambi stem bark is used for scabies medications, drugs sore and medicine for ear inflammation. This research aims to determine the antibacterial activity of nhexane fraction, chloroform fraction and water fraction of the ethanolic extract of kesambi stem bark against Staphylococcus aureus. Kesambi stem bark powder was extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol. That obtained extract was fractionated with the solvent n-hexane, chloroform and water. Testing against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 using a diffusion method to determine the most active fraction followed by a dilution method to determine the Minimum Kill Concentration of the most active fraction. The concentrations used in the diffusion method was 25%; 12,5%; 6,25% and dilution method used in concentrations of 25%; 12,5%; 6,25%; 3,12%; 1,56%; 0,78%; 0,39%; 0,20%; 0,10%; 0,05%. The results showed that the n-hexane fraction, chloroform fraction and water fraction kesambi stem bark has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 at a certain concentration. Inhibitory average diameter nhexane fraction, chloroform fraction and water fraction with the concentration at 25%, respectively, 11.667 mm, 16.667 mm and 17.333 mm. The most active fraction against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 is the water fraction with the Minimum Kill Concentration is 12,5%.
