Abstract

Antioxidant is an important compound in maintaining health and protecting body from negative effect of free radical. One of antioxidant sources was flavonoid derived from plant. The plant having antioxidant activity included kate mas (Euphorbia heterophylla L.) herb, among others. The directly use of kate mas (Euphorbia heterophylla L.) herb as antioxidant is considered as less practical, thereby needs a more suitable development. The development attempt taken it to prepare the kate mas herb in the from of cream. This research aimed to find out the antioxidant activity from kate mas herb extrac prepared in the from of cream on DPPH free radical expressed in IC50 value. Kate mas herb was extracted using maceration method, and then prepared into cream from on the basis of vanishing cream with varying concentration of kate mas herb extract of 1%, 2%, and 3%. The cream product was tested for its antioxidant activity using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidration) method. The activity on DPPH radical was measured using spectrophotometer with 515 nm wavelength after 30 minutes, and then the IC50 value was determined. Routine was used as the control in this research. The result showed that the kate mas herb cream had the best antioxidant activity in the formula III with the extract concentration of 3% on the week-0, with the IC50 value of 127.350 ppm while the routine as the control had IC50 of 7.798 ppm.
