Abstract

Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) is a herb which has the tonic effect. This research was aimed to determine the tonic effect of ethanolic extract of binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) leaves to white mice (Mus musculus) male and to determine the effective dose of ethanolic extract of binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) leaves that provide a tonic effect to white mice (Mus musculus) male. This research test animals used were 25 white mice (Mus musculus) male, divided into 5 groups (each group are 5 mice). Group I (negative control) is CMC 0,5%, group II (positive control) is caffeine 100 mg/ Kg BB, group III is ethanolic extract of binahong leaves 0,115 g/ Kg BB, group IV is ethanolic extract of binahong leaves 0,23 g/ Kg BB and group V is ethanolic extract of binahong leaves 0,46 g/ Kg BB. The research was conducted with mice allow to swim, and then observed and recorded the time tired before and after treatment. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of binahong leaves have the effect of tonic to white male mice and the effective dose obtained a tonic effect on the ethanolic extract of binahong leaves 0,46 mg/ Kg BB. The average addition of a tired group I, II, III, IV and V respectively is -0,04; 12,56; 7,51; 11,27 and 18,51 minutes. Key words : binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.)
