Abstract

Combination treatment for dyslipidemia is one way to optimal lipid management. Bastard cedar leaves and roselle calyx has activity reduce blood cholesterol levels, because it has some chemical constituents such as flavonoid, saponin, tannin and anthocyanin. This study aimed to determine influence combination of ethanolic extract bastard cedar leaves and rosella calyx on LDL levels in male rats and to determine the dose combination of two extracts are most effective to lowering LDL levels. This study used 35 male rats were divided into 7 groups. The measurement of rats LDL blood levels performed at T0, T1 and T2. Induction of hypercholesterolemia used PTU, yolk and high cholesterol feeding. The treatment given by division are Group I (distilled water and feed BR2), Group II (0.5% CMC-Na), Group III (roselle calyx extract 0.5 mg / g rats BW), Group IV (bastard cedar leaves extract 1mg/g), Group V (roselle calyx extract 0.5 mg / g and bastard cedar leaves extract 1mg/g), Group VI (roselle calyx extract 0.25 mg / g and bastard cedar leaves extract 1mg/g), Group VII (roselle calyx extract 0.5 mg /g and bastard cedar leaves extract 0.5 mg / g rats BW). Analyzed by Kolmogorof Smirnov test, one-way ANOVA followed by Post Hoc Test. The results showed that administration of combination ethanolic extract of bastard cedar leaves and roselle calyx able to lowering LDL levels in male rats. Dose combination ethanolic extract of roselle calyx : bastard cedar leaves 0.5 mg / g BW : 1mg/g rats BW most effectively lowering LDL levels.
