Abstract
Phyllanthus buxifolius Muell, Arg is a tribe of Euphorbiaceae plants commonly grown in tropical countries. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of n-hexane fraction, the fraction of ethyl acetate and water fractions of ethanolic extract of seligi leafs (Phyllanthus buxifolius Muell, Arg) against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Dried seligi leafs later made powder. The extraction of seligi leafs using percolation method with 70% ethanol solvent, then fractioned using the solvent n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. The results of fractionation of the antibacterial activity tested against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 using diffusion and dilution methods. Concentration of the fraction used for the diffusion method was 50%; 25%; 12,5%. Concentration of the fraction used for the dilution method was 25%; 12,5%; 6,25%; 3,12%; 1,56%; 0,78%; 0,39%; 0,195%; 0,097%; 0,048%. The results of ethanolic extract ofseligi leafs showed n-hexane fraction had no antibacterial activity, while the fraction of ethyl acetate and water fraction has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Ethyl acetate fraction has the most active antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with a kill minimum concentration of 3,12%.
