Abstract
Brotowali stem (Tinospora crispa (L) Miers.) is a medicinal plant is used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The study was aimed to find out the hypoglycemic effects and the most effective comparison of the combination of brotowali stem infuse with glibenclamide and metformin as antidiabetic in glucose-induced hyperglycemic mice. Test animals were divided in 10 groups i.e. negative control group (distilled water), glibenclamide 0.013 mg/20 g BW, metformin 1.3 mg/20 g BW, brotowali stem infusion 0.37 ml/20 g BW, combination of brotowali stem infusion and glibenclamide 0.75:0.25, 0.5:0.5, 0.25:0.75, combination of brotowali stem infuse and metformin 0.75:0.25, 0.5:0.5, 0.25:0.75. blood glucose level was measured at 30, 60 and 120 minute. The obtained data were analyzed by calculating the Area Under the Curve (AUC), and was performed one way ANOVA statistical test and next were analyzed Tukey test. The result showed that combination of glibenclamide-brotowali stem infuse and combination of metformin-brotowali stem infuse could of decreased blood glucose level in glucose-induced hyperglycemic mice. Combination of glibenklamid-brotowali stem infuse (0.75:0.25, 0.5:0.5, 0.25:0.75) have a similiar effect with single glibenclamide and combination of metformin-brotowali stem infuse (0.75:0.25, 0.5:0.5, 0.25:0.75) have a similiar effect with single metformin in decrease blood glucose level.
