Abstract
Diabetes is one of desease which relation with increasing of glucose blood rate periodicly. Long-term of diabetic mellitus can cause side effects that required another treatment alternative that is cheap and safe. Ant plants (Hydnophytum formicarum Jack) is a plant that can be used as an alternative antidiabetic drug. This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of H. formicarum in lowering blood sugar levels and determine the effective dose of ethanol extract of H. formicarum for lowering blood sugar levels in white male rats. H. formicarum powder macerated with 70% ethanol. Test animals were divided 5 groups, each 5 rats. Group I was given a positive control group (Glibenclamide) at a dose of 0.09 mg/200 gBW and group II were given 0.5% CMC as a negative control. Group III, IV, V, given successive doses of 0.135 gr/KgBW; 0.27 g/KgBW; 0.54 gr/KgBW. All groups after 16 hours of acclimatization alloxan induced by intra-peritoneal. Examination of blood sugar levels performed on day 3, 6, 9, and 12. The analysis data using oneway anova test and post hoc test. Average positive control of blood glucose levels (79 ± 6 mg/dL); Negative controls (205 ± 9.62 mg/dL); ethanol extract of H. formicarum dose of 0.135 g / kg body weight (97.6 ± 6.87 mg/dL); ethanol extract of H. formicarum dose of 0.27 g/KgBW (95 ± 9.30 mg/dL); ethanol extract of H. formicarum dose of 0.54 g/KgBW (90.4 ± 6.34 mg/dL). From the results of statistical analysis of the ethanol extract of H. formicarum 0,135 g/KgBW; 0,27 g/KgBW; 0,54 g/KgBW and there is’n difference of meaning. At a dose of 0,135 g/KgBW has antidiabetic effects as the most effective in lowering blood sugar levels in alloxan-induced rats.
