Abstract

One of the plants is empirically efficacious as a diuretic is water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica Forks). Diuretics are used to spending a lot more urine volume, especially in hypertension, kidney stones. The purpose of this study to investigate the effects of n-hexane fraction diuretic water spinach in Wistar male rats. Diuretic test was conducted using Lipshitz, using test animals by 25 wistar male rats were divided into 5 groups: control group I 0,5% CMC suspension negative, positive control group II dose furosemide 0,72 mg / 200g BB, group III given the n-hexane fraction suspension doses of 7,5 mg/200 g BW, IV dose group 11,3 mg/200 g BW, group V BB dose of 15 mg/200 g. Test animals included metabolic cage, urine volume was measured at 6, 12, 18 and 24. Diuretic effect is obtained by calculating the cumulative urine volume and AUC (Area Under the Curve). Then the data were analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA), if there are significant differences continued LSD (Least Significant Difference) with 95% confidence level. The results showed that the fraction of n-hexane water spinach dose of 7,5 mg/200 g BW has a diuretic effect. So it can be said n-hexane fraction is efficacious as a diuretic.
