Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease or a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels. This disease accompanied by impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins as a result of insufficiency of insulin function. It was reported that the brotowali (Tinospora crispa L. Miers) stem containing flavonoid and alkaloid who have antidiabetic activity. This reseach aims to know the effects of antidiabetic combination infuse of brotowali steam with glibenklamid as well as metformin on alloxan induced diabetic mice. Diabetic on mice that induced in monhidrat alloxan 100 mg/kg bw. Treatment groups were divided into 10 groups. Negative control group, glibenclamide (0.013 mg/20 g bw mice), metformin (1.3 mg/20 g bw mice ), a single dose of brotowali stem (0.39 ml/20 g bw mice), a combination of glibenclamide-infuse brotowali stem (0.75:0.25, 0.50:0.50, 0.25:0.75), and the combination of metformin-infuse brotowali stem (0.75:0.25, 0.50:0.50 , 0.25:0.75). Blood glucose levels were measured on days 0, 1st, 4th, 8th. Analysis of the data were conducted by one-way Anova (p <0,05). The results showed a combination of glibenclamide-brotowali stem infuse as well as combination of metformin-brotowali stem infuse could give the lowering effect of blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced mice. Combination of glibenclamide-brotowali stem infuse (0.75:0.25, 0.50:0.50, 0.25:0.75) showed a comparable effect with single glibenclamide and combination of metforminbrotowali stem infuse (0.75:0.25, 0.50:0.50, 0.25:0.75) showed a comparable effect with single metformin in lowering blood glucose levels. keyword : Tinospora crispa, glibenclamide, metformin, alloxan monohydrate, antidiabetic.
