Abstract
The plant potentially improving memory, in addition to Ginko biloba is pegagan(Centella asiatica, [L] Urban) herb. The main benefit of pegagan is to exert positive effect on the cerebral nerve stimulation, and to smooth the blood transportation to the cerebral vessels. The plant selected to be combined with pegagan herb is wild ginger (Curcuma xanthorrhiza, Roxb) potentially protects the cell from oxidative damage andincreases appetite. The objective of research was to find out whether or not the combination of pegagan herb and wild ginger rhizome extracts in instantaneous preparation form can improve the memory and have different effect at varying doses. The step through passive avoidance method employed pretest and posttest latency time interval parameter from the length of time the mice needed to enter the dark compartment from bright compartment. The dose used was 0.195 mg Ginko biloba as positive control, and 0.0052 g aerosol as negative control, combination ofdry extract preparation at 0.026 g (0.91 mg pegagan extract and 0.98 wild ginger extract), 0.052 g (1.82 mg pegagan extract and 0.98 wild ginger extract), and 0.078 g (2.73 mg pegagan extract and 2.94 wild ginger extract) doses. The data was analyzed using two-way ANOVA, followed by Tamhan’s T2 test. The result of statistic test showed the significant difference of each test group in whichthe preparation combination of pegagan herb and wild ginger at 0.052 g (1.82 mg pegagan extract and 0.98 wild ginger extract) had highest mean latency time during the research: 78.59 s on the day-9, 93.56 s on the day-10, and 176.43 s on the day-11.It could be concluded that the combination of macerated pegagan (Centella asiatica, [L] Urban) herb and wild ginger (Curcuma xanthorrhiza, Roxb) rhizome having been made dry extract preparation still provided memory improvement effect on the white mice (Mus musculus).
