Abstract
Escargot(Achatina fulica Ferr) mucus is the material utilized to cover the wound and to cure the burn wound. Escargot mucus is the cheap and easy-to-get medicine, while it was still used rarely in pharmacy area. To facilitate the use of escargot(Achatina fulica Ferr) mucus, an appropriate preparation is needed in this treatment. The use of escargot mucus can be facilitatedfor its use by preparing it in cream form. In this research, the oil cream in water type was used. This research was aimed to obtain the optimum formula proportion of escargot mucus cream from sorbitan 60 and polisorbat 60 using Simplex Lattice Design method. The optimum cream formula based on Simplex Lattice Design included 3 formula: formula I with 100% Sorbitan 60 - 0% polisorbat 60, formula II with 50% sorbitan - 50% polisorbat 60, and formula III with 0% sorbitan 60 100% polisorbat 60. The physical properties observed were viscosity, spreadability, antibacterial activity, and viscosity shift. The optimum formula was based on the cream’ physical property parameter obtained using Software Design Expert version 8.0.6. The optimum formula of escargot mucus was obtained with the 0% sorbitan 60 - 100% polisorbat 60 proportion. Keywords: escargot mucus, cream, sorbitan 60, polisorbat 60, Simplex Lattice Design.
