Abstract

Sarang semut (Hydnophytum formicarum) is medicinal plants has been used by the community for the treatment. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of ethanol extract of hydnophytum formicarum jack on ALT / AST level and histopathology examination of the rat liver, and what the dose of sarang semut give effet to the rat liver. The effect of ethanol extract test performed at 40 male and female white rat, which divided into 4 group. Each group consisted of 10 rats, 5 males and 5 females. i.e 0,135 g/KgBW dose, 0,27 g/KgBW dose, 0,54 g/KgBW dose, and distilled water control. Performed by biochemical analysis that measures the activity of Alanine amino transferase (ALT), aspartate amino transferase (AST) enzymes in blood on the day before treatment (T0), 30th days (T1), 60th days (T2) and 90th days (T3). Then rats were sacrificed on 90th days to saw the presence of abnormalities in liver macroscopically and microscopically (Histopathology). The result showed that the ethanol ekstract of Hydnophytum formicarum during the 90th treatment days did not effect the enzyme ALT/AST in male and female rats. But at a 0,54 g/KgBW dose has toxic effect, in male and female rats were observed on histopatologic paraneters which many cells undergoing necrosis.
