Abstract

Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a traditional medicine plant and which one of it is use to treat diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is caused by damage in pancreatic β cells. The purpose of the study to testing infuse combination of the beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) on decreasing blood glucose levels in mice alloxan induced. Animals test were used in this research are male white mice Balb/C consist of 30 mice were divided into 6 groups of treatment. Group I: negative control, group II: bean infuse, group III: bitter melon infuse, and 3 group infuse combination of beans and bitter melon (25%:75%; 50%:50%; 75%:25%). Glucose level be measure on day 3, 6 and 9, with Easy-Touch glukotest. The results of blood sugar levels were analyzed by one way ANOVA (p<0.05). The result showed a infuse combination of beans and bitter melon (25%:75%; 50%:50%; 75%:25%) can reduce blood glucose levels. The infuse combination of beans and bitter melon (75%:25%) gives the effect of decreasing blood glucose levels of the most effective.
