Abstract
Plant basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) is a plant that has been known to be able to alternative antidiabetic drugs. One of cause of DM is destroy pancreatic β cells. This study aimed to determine the effect and the most effective dose for the combination of basil-herb infusion and intravenous glibenclamide-metformin herb basil can give the effect of decreasing blood glucose levels in male mice in induced alloxan. The research was conducted with a random design using white male mice, strain Balb/c, age 3-4 months, weight 15-30 grams. All the mice were made diabetic using alloxan intraperitonial. Mice were divided into 10 groups, each group consisted of 8 mice. Group I: negative control, group II: glibenclamide, group III: metformin, group IV infusion herbaceous basil, 3 group basil herbinfused combination of glibenclamide and 3 group basil herb-infused combination of metformin. Glucose level be measure on day 4 and 8, with Easy-Touch glukotest. The results of blood sugar levels were analyzed by one way ANOVA (p<0.05). The results showed a combination of intravenous administration of basil herb-glibenclamide (0,25:0,75; 0,5:0,5; 0,75:0,25) can lower blood glucose levels comparable to the effects of glibenklamid (p <0.05). The combination of basilinfused herbal metformin (0,25:0,75 and 0,5:0,5) can lower blood glucose levels as well as metfromin (p<0.05). Keywords: Ocimum basilicum L., alloxan, blood glucose, glibenclamide, metformin.
