Abstract
Kate mas herb contains flavonoids, tannins and saponins. Flavonoids can improve endothelial function of blood vessels and can reduce the sensitivity of LDL against free radicals. The purpose of this study is to determine and prove ethanol extracts effects of kate mas herbs (Euphorbia heterophylla L.) and the most effective dose in decrease of LDL levels serum in tested animals. The research uses 40 test animals grouped into 8 and each test group consists of 5 male white rats. Group I as normal control, group II negative control, group III positive control (simvastatin), group IV ethanol extract dose of 100 mg/kg body weight, group V ethanol extract dose of 200 mg/kg body weight, group VI ethanol extract dose of 400 mg/kg body weight, group VII ethanol extract dose of 600 mg/kg body weight, group VIII ethanol extract dose of 800 mg/kg body weight. Animal test of LDL level measured on day 0, day 7 and day 21. Conclusion of this research is kate mas herbs extracts (Euphorbia heterophylla L.) have influence in decrease of LDL levels serum in the tested animals’ blood. The most effective dose in decrease of LDL level is 100 mg/kg body weight. Keywords: Antihyperlipidemic activity, kate mas (Euphorbia heterophylla L.), LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein)
