Abstract

Aging is a process of slow vanishing of tissue ability to repair itself or replace and defend its normal function. Consequently in the elderly changes occur at the macro level, one of which is the change in the cardiovascular system, i.e. hypertension. Uncontrolled hypertension can cause fatal kidney damage. Elevated level of serum creatinine indicates kidney damage, it is necessary to check serum creatinine levels. This paper was composed based on the result of creatinine level examination to 20 serum samples of elderly with hypertension and supported by publicized literature. Samples were examined by Kinetic Test method using monoreagent creatinine, creatinine standard, and then read the levels with a Stardust FC photometer. The result of creatinine level examination of 20 samples in elderly with hypertension found: 60% of samples had elevated levels of creatinine because the elderly had long suffered from hypertension and disobey taking antihypertensive medication regularly. While 40% of the samples were not increased creatinine levels because the elderly had not long suffered from hypertension so that complications did not occur, and routinely taking antihypertensive medication regularly.
