Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) caused by Gram-negative and positive bacteria including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In the treathment of UTI, antibiotic be the main choice. Antibiotic use for a long period and continously may cause resistance. Therefore, people prefer using traditional medicine. One of them is Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lamk.) which can be used as antibacterial. This research aim to know antibacterial extract ethanolik of Moringa stem bark activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus of UTI patient isolate and knowing the difference of the inhibition zone diameter. Moringa oleifera stem bark obtained in Surakarta. It’s taken from the main stem and branches. 500 gram powder of kelor stem bark extracted with percolation using ethanol 96%. Perkolat added DMSO 2% with 5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% concentration. Then the antibacterial activity test against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus using diffusion method, and analyzed by Anova test (Two Way Anova). The results show that Moringa oleifera stem bark ethanolic extract has antibacterial activity. The average diameter of inhibition zone of Moringa stem bark extract at concentrations of 5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% againts Escherichia coli are 10,5; 14,5; 20,5; 22,5; and 26,5, againts Staphylococcus aureus is 15; 27; 31; 33,5; dan 35,5.
