Abstract
Health information can be obtained from such sources among themphysicians, health personel, family / friend, newspaper / magazine, book, television, radio and internet. Given this information will add to their knowledge of the illness especially hypertension which the third deadly disease after stroke and tuberculosis. This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of individual and contextual factors in the patient self-confidence. This study was used a non-experimental research design with observational approach model by cross-sectional observational approach. The data obtained from questionnaires to the respondents were analyzed using descriptive methods to theoutpatient of hypertension in Dr.Moewardi Hospital. The samples used were 97 respondents. The data obtained then analyzed to determine the patient's self-confidence, literacy of health and patient's self-confidence in the health care resources, then conducted validity test using factor analysis by SPSS version 19. The next reliability test and hypotheses test by hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed variable individual factor, which are literacy of health had high percentage value which indicates that the respondents understand the illness. Contextual variable, which aretrust in sources of information shows that the respondents chose a doctor, family/friend as their source of health information. The result of hypothesis 1 shows that individual factor which are literacy of health had positive effect in the level of self-confidence in search of health information. It views from beta value 0.513 and significant p <0.05, while hypothesis 2 states that contextual factor had no effect in the self-confidence of hypertensive patient in search ofhealth information needed, with a beta value -0.073 and significant 0.387 with p> 0.05.
