Abstract
Zinc and vitamin A are interrelated nutrients and have a role as anti-infective agents for the body. Intake of zinc and vitamin A which is less able to reduce the immune system so that the body is more susceptible to infectious diseases, one of which is typhoid fever. Typhoid fever is an acute infection of the digestive tract caused by S. typhi. This study aims to determine the effect of zinc and vitamin A on the number of lymphocytes and immunoglobulin G (IgG) in Balb/c mice infected with S. typhimurium. This research is a laboratory experimental research with the design of the Post Test Only Control Group Design. Samples of 20 Balb/c mice were randomly divided into 4 groups, namely negative control group, positive control group, treatment group 1 (treatment) and treatment group 2 (prevention). The lymphocyte count was performed using a hematology analyzer, while the IgG titer was tested by the widal slide method. Data analysis was performed by an independent t-test. The results of the independent t-test on the lymphocyte count from each paired group showed a significant difference (p<0,05). The IgG results the highest titers were found in the treatment group 2 of 1/32. The conclusion of this study, giving zinc and vitamin A to Balb/c mice infected with S. typhimurium affects the number of lymphocytes and immunoglobulin G (IgG).
