Abstract
Salmonella typhi is a bacterium that causes various infectious diseases, ranging from mild gastroenteritis to severe typhoid fever with bacteremia. Salmonella sp. Infection by Salmonella typhi usually treated by using antibiotics, but over-use for a long time and improper doses cause bacteria to become resistant. The alternative that can be done is to use antibiotics from medicinal plants. One of them is Berenuk (Cresentia cujete L.) plant which contains antibacterial phenol compounds, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and alkaloids. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of extracts and juice of Berenuk leaves against Salmonella typhi. Berenuk leaves extract was obtained through maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Berenuk leaves juice is made by smoothing the Berenuk leaves, then adding sterile aquadest and filtered. Antibacterial Activity Test using diffusion and dilution methods. The treatments used for the diffusion method were concentrations of 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, and positive controls (Chloramphenicol), and negative controls (DMSO 2 % or sterile aquadest). The dilution method uses concentrations of 50%, 45%, 40%, 35%, 30%, 25%, 20%, 15%, 10% dan 5%. The results showed that Berenuk leaves extract had antibacterial activity, while the juice had no antibacterial activity. Berenuk leaves extract with a concentration of 50% has the largest inhibitory power of 16mm. The KBM (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) value of Berenuk leaf extract is 45%.
