Abstract

Candidiasis is caused by the fungus Candida albicans. The use of antibiotics for a long time and continuously can cause side effects and resistance so that people prefer to use traditional medicines in the form of herbal plants. One of the herbs that can be used is Berenuk (Crescentia cujete, Linn.) Which can be used as an antifungal Candida albicans. The purpose of this study was to determine the antifungal activity of the shaken leaf extract against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 in vitro and to determine the maximum concentration in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans fungi as seen from the diameter of the inhibition zone. Berenuk leaves are obtained in the Karanganyar area, Central Java. Leaves taken are leaves that are not too young and not too old. Berenuk leaf powder was extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The extract was then added 3% DMSO at each concentration of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. Then the antifungal activity test for Candida albicans uses the paper disk diffusion method, and analyzed with the Anova test (One Way Anova). The results showed that the berenuk leaf extract had antifungal activity against Candida albicans. The average diameter of inhibitory zones of berenuk leaf extract at concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% is 8,3, 10,3, 12, 13,3, 15. The most active concentration in inhibiting Candida albicans is at a concentration of 25%. Keywords: antifungal, berenuk leaf extract, Candida albicans
