Abstract

Meniran (Phyllathus niruri L.) and Kenikir (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) Is an herbal medicinal that contains the composition of saponins, flavonoids, tannins, polyphenyls, alkoloid. The purpose of this study was to study the antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of Meniran leaves and Kenikir leaves against Salmonella typhi ATCC 13311. The combination test extract of Meniran leaves and Kenikir leaves was obtained through maceration method with 96% ethanol. The method of testing antibacterial activity by diffusion method. Dilution of the combination combination of Meniran leaves and Kenikir leaves was made in variations of 1: 0, 2: 1, 1: 1, 1: 2, 0: 1 with a concentration of 50% using DMSO 2%. The results of this study indicate a combination of Meniran leaves and Kenikir leaves having antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi ATCC 13311. Ethanolic extracts of combination of Meniran leaves and Kenikir leaves with variations of 1: 0, 2: 1, 1: 1, 2: 1, and 0: 1 has antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi ATCC 13311 with a complete average inhibition zone of 17.00 mm, 17.67 mm, 20.00 mm, 17.00 mm and 17.00 mm. The diameter of the inhibitory zone produced has a significant difference. Comparison of 1: 1 has the biggest inhibition zone of the others, namely: 20.00 mm. The combination etonolic extract of Meniran and Kenikir leaves has a synergy activity in inhibiting the growth of Salmonella typhi bacteria ATCC 13311.
