Abstract

Cancer is an abnormal growth of body tissues cells turned into malignant. One of cancer type is breast cancer. Obesity and late menopause age are two of some factors affected the occurrence of breast cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship of obesity and late menopause age in patients with breast cancer at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital. This research applied an observational research design using cross sectional study approach. The samples used in this research were 92 respondents of patients with breast cancer. Data were collected by filling questionnaire with direct interviews, followed by analysis using chi square test with significance of 5% or 0.05 and level of confidence 95%. The result of chi square test indicated p value 0.033 (p < 0.05) with OR value (Odds Ratio) 2.635. It can be concluded that there was a relationship of obesity and late menopause age in patients with breast cancer, and obese women experienced late menopause have 2.635 times greater risk of suffering breast cancer compared to women who are not obese and not late menopause.
