Abstract
Infectious disease of the skin can be caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Plants that have the potential to be medicinal include mahogany and noni plants. Ethanol extract of mahogany leaves contains compounds of alkaloid, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, and terpenoids. Noni leaves contain active compounds of saponins, flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, and terpenoids, so that they can be used as antibacterial. The extraction method in this study was the percolation method using 96% ethanol. Mahogany and noni leaves are made in a ratio of 0:1, 1:0, 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1. The extract obtained was made in a concentration of 75%. The antibacterial activity test on Staphylococcus aureus from Laboratory culture and from the Hospital culture used the well diffusion method, and Ciprofloxacin positive control and negative control of Dimethyl Sulfoxide 2%. The culture media used was Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). The results showed that the ethanol extract of mahogany and noni leaves and a combination of 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1 at a concentration of 75% had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Single extract of mahogany leaves with a ratio of 1:0 has the most active antibacterial ability against Staphylococcus aureus. The combination of ethanol extract of mahogany leaves and noni leaves does not have a synergistic effect. Staphylococcus aureus from Laboratory culture is more sensitive than Hospital culture to mahogany leaves extract and noni leaves.
