Abstract

Making one unit of PRC (Packed Red Cells) uses one complete blood unit (Whole Blood) which is separated between red blood cells and other components through plasma removal. The process of separating red blood cells can be done in two ways, namely sedimentation (deposition of red blood cells left alone during storage and centrifugation of 3000 rpm high rotation for 5 minutes with acceleration: 2 decelerations: 2. Making one unit of PRC from 350 ml of complete blood obtained the volume of red blood cells 179-257 ml with hematocrit levels of 0.65 - 0.75 The aim of this study was to determine differences in hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in PRC products sedimentation and centrifugation methods. This type of research is comparative analytic, the sample in this study is blood donors in UDD PMI Surakarta City as many as 30 PRC samples of sedimentation methods and 30 PRC samples of centrifugation methods. The test in this study used independent samples t-test. The results of this study showed that there weren’t significant differences in hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in the PRC sedimentation and centrifugation products, and both PRC groups are still in standart and transfusion because the hemoglobiln level is 45 g and the hematocrit is 0.65 - 0.75.
