Abstract
Autoimmune type I DM occurs due to impaired insulin production caused by damage to pancreatic β cells so that insulin production is reduced or none at all. Damage to pancreatic β cells affects the increase in blood urea and creatinine levels. Medicinal plants with the potential to increase antioxidants and insulin secretion can be used for DM therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine the antihyperglycemic activity and its effect on decreasing urea levels and blood creatinine levels in rats induced by Streptozotocin (STZ) -Nicotinamide (NA). This study used 12 treatment groups of extract treatment of alpha mangostine compounds. Group I as a normal control extract; group II-V was given STZ-NA induction. Group II as negative control (STZ-NA); group III as positive control (glibenclamide); group IV (ethanol extract of mangosteen peel dose 25 mg / kg BW), group V (ethanol extract of mangosteen peel dose 50 mg / kg BB) and group VI (ethanol extract of mangosteen fruit peel dose of 100 mg / kg BB). The group giving alpha mangostin compounds was group VII as a normal control isolate; group VIII as negative control (STZ-NA), group IX as negative control (Glibenklamid), group X (alpha mangostin 0.032 mg / 200 gBB), group XI (alpha mangostin 0.064 mg/200gBB) and group XII (alpha mangostin 0.128mg /200gBB) for 28 days. Blood glucose levels, urea levels and creatinine levels were measured for the administration of alpha mangostin extracts and compounds. The results showed that the mangosteen peel extract test group (100 mg/200g BB) and alpha mangostin compounds (0.128 mg /200gBB) at dose III decreased blood glucose levels which were comparable to decreases in urea levels and blood creatinine levels. The dose of alpha mangostin 0.128 mg /200gBB has much better effectiveness compared to the treatment of other extracts and isolates. Keywords : Type I DM, Streptozotocin-Nicotinamide, alpha mangostin
