Abstract
Bipolar affective disorder is one of the brain disorders that causes mood, energy, activity level, and ability to carry out daily activities which are also called manic-depression, where chronic disorders of mood regulation resulting in depressive and manic episodes can happen for a person's entire life. This study aims to determine the description of the use of a mood stabilizer, to determine the average cost of treating bipolar patients discussing hospitalization and to see the results of the therapy using mood stabilizers in bipolar patients in Surakarta RSJD. This research is a descriptive observational study and retrospective data collection was taken from the medical record file to obtain the cost and outcome of therapeutic use of mood stabilizers in patients with inpatient bipolar disorder at RSJD Surakarta. The subjects in this study were inpatient bipolar patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder who were receiving mood stabilizer therapy for the antipsychotic group. The calculated costs include, the cost of mood stabilizer drugs, antipsychotic groups, treatment rooms, nutritional intake, support, medical measures, drugs and medical supplies. Measured outcomes include PANSS scores, changes in body weight and frequency of extrapyramidal events. The results of this study concluded that patients who met the inclusion criteria of 60 people. The average total cost of treatment of bipolar is Rp 8,018,974 for a single episode of hospitalization. The highest average costs are typical antipsychotic group (Rp. 6,406,123), antipsychotic combination group (Rp. 5,357,665), an atypical antipsychotic group (Rp. 3,890,713). Outcome therapy is the use of atypical antipsychotics mood stabilizers average PANSS score of 46.2, 0.0 kg of weight change and incidence of EPS by 10%, typical group PANSS score of 38.87, 0.53 kg weight change and incidence of EPS 0%, while the combination of atypical -tipikal PANSS score of 41.38, 0.95 kg weight with a 2.38% incidence of EPS. Based on the results we can conclude atypical mood stabilizers are more effective in PANSS score reduction, but it has a tendency of occurrence of extrapyramidal.
