Abstract
Okra is a plant that can be used to overcome the disease of type II Diabetes Mellitus (DM). This research aims to know fractions in ethanol extract of the fruit of the okra which contribute optimally towards a decrease in blood glucose levels and an increase in the activity of the glucose transporter 4 protein translocations (GLUT-4) muscle tissue on type II DM rat model of insulin resistance. This study was used 35 animals, divided into 7 groups: normal, positive controls metformin 45 mg / KgBW, negative control 1% CMC-Na, the treatment group were given ethanol extract of okra fruit 200 mg / KgBW; hexane fraction of 107 mg / KgBW; ethyl acetate fraction 6 mg / KgBW; fraction of water 86 mg/ KgBW. Animals were induced insulin resistance by administering a high-fat diet and fructose for 60 days and low dose STZ injection 30 mg / KgBW on 30th and 44th day. The results showed a group of antidiabetic activity of ethanol extract of okra fruit, hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and fraction of water respectively 30.22%; 28.48%; 44.52%; 23.45%. It shows the fraction of ethyl acetate had more optimum antidiabetic activity and an increase in the number of GLUT-4 protein translocation in rats that were conditioned DM type II insulin resistance. Keywords : Abelmoschus esculentus (L) Moench, insulin resistance, GLUT-4, blood glucose.
