Abstract

Sente plants are known as giant taro or elephant’s ear which is an Araceace tribe. The chemical contenof Sente leaf is flavonoids, saponins and polyphenols. The Chili plant is a terna or bush from the Solanaceae tribe. The chemical content of Chili leaf is saponins, flavonoids, tannins and alkaloids. All of these compounds have activity as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity extract of Sente leaf and Chili leaf as antibacterial Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Sente leaf and Chili leaf are made with several comparison: 1:0. 1:1, 2:1, 1:2 and 0:1. The extract was obtained by maceration method using ethanol 96%. Antibacterial activity test against Pseudomonas aeruginosa laboratory culture and patient’s pus isolate by using diffution method. The concentration of extract for diffution test is 80% with positive control of meropenem and negative control DMSO 2%. The result data were analyzed by ANOVA. The result of the diffution test showed that extract Sente leaf and Chili leaf has antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Diameter of inhibition zone Pseudomonas aeruginosa most widely laboratory culture is extract S1:C2 9,33 mm, while Pseudomonas aeruginosa patien’s pus isolate is extract S1:C1 10,00 mm. The ethanolic extract of Sente leaf and Chili leaf has no synergistic effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria.
