Abstract
The objective of the study is to determine antibiofilm activity of fractions from the black tea (Camellia sinensis L.) against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 as well as the determination of black tea polyphenols. Antibiofilm activity test in the form inhibition of biofilm formation and degradation were calculated using a microplate round bottom polystyrene 96 wells in BHI media. Assay of polyphenol extracts and fractions of black tea by using the Folin-Ciocalteu. Concentration fractions of black tea used is 2 mg / mL, 4 mg / mL, 6 mg / ml and 8 mg / mL. The results showed that black tea fractions have antibiofilm activity against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 is the fraction of water concentration of 8 mg/mL 82.92% and 82.35% in inhibiting S. aureus biofilm while P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 percentage inhibition of biofilm formation and degradation of respectively 76.06% and 77.61%. Total phenolic concentration from the fractions of black tea is highest in the water fraction of 3.1%. The conclusion of the study was that black tea fractions have an activity in inhibiting and degrade biofilm S. aureus ATCC 25923 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Keywords: antibiofilm, Camellia sinensis L, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
