Abstract
Diabetes mellitus was metabolic abnormalities that was characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins caused by abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin work and both. The purpose of this study was to determine the infusion and ethanolic extract of mangosteen leaves (Garcinia mangostana, Linn.) to reduce blood glucose levels of mice induced with variation of infusion doses and ethanolic extract of mangosteen leaves (Garcinia mangostana, Linn.) Which were effectived in reducing levels blood glucose in diabetic rats induced by alloxan. The extraction method was used infundation and maceration. Test animals were divided into 9 groups, each group consisted of 5 male white rats, Group In was normal control, II was negative control (0.5% CMC); III was positive control glibenclamide (0.09 mg / 200g BW rats); group IV was ½ dose of extract (0.013 mg / 200 g BW rats); V was empirical dose of extract (0.026 mg / 200 g BW mice); Group VI was 2 times of dose (0.052mg / 200g BW); Group VII was ½ dose of infusion (0.9 ml / 200 g BW rats); VIII was an empirical dose of infusion (1.8 ml / 200 g BW) and IX, which is 2 times the empirical dose of infusion (3.6 ml / 200 g BW). All groups were induced by alloxan on day 0 intraperitoneally except normal control. Examination of blood sugar levels was carried out on days 7 to 28 after administration of the treatment. The results showed that mangosteen leaf (garcinia mangostana Linn.) infusion and extract Could reduce blood glucose levels in diabetic rats induced by alloxan. The effective dose of mangosteen leaf infusion which can reduce blood sugar levels was a dose of 3.6 ml / 200g BW rat and ethanolic extract of mangosteen leaves which can reduce blood glucose levels was a dose of 0,026 mg / 200 kg BW.
