Abstract

Thrombocytopenia means condition in which platelets in the circulating blood are below 150,000 / µl of blood. Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) can be used as increasing platelets because its contain alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, and tannins. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of papaya leaves in increasing platelet counts, reducing blood clotting time, and effective dose in increasing platelet counts and decreasing blood clotting time. This research was using sample of 30 white male mice which were divided into 6 groups of 5 mice each . These are normal control, negative control (Na CMC), positive control (PSIDII®), the ethanol extract of carica papaya leaves with the dose of 150, 300 and 600 mg/kg BB given orally. Mice were given 13 mg/kg BB aspirin by oral for first 4 days. In 6th until 12th day were given ethanolic extract of carica papaya leaves (except normal, negative and positive control). In 1st, 5th and 13th platelet count were determined by Improved Neubauer hemocytometer. In 14th clotting time determined by slide method. The result were statiscally analyzed with One Way ANOVA test and continued with Tukey test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of papaya leaves can increase platelet counts and reduce blood clotting time. At a dose of 600 mg / kg BB has the highest ability to increase platelet counts and reduce blood clotting time. Keyword : clotting time, papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.), platelet,.
