Abstract

Kenikir (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) has the antioxidant activity because it containt compound of phenolic, flavonoid, quercetin, kaempferol, rutin. This research aim to know the variations in emulgator concentrations of 80 tween and 60 span that provide physical stability and good activity against antioxidants as to know its influence in various formulas of antioxidant cream of Cosmos caudatus Kunth. Leaf extract. Kenikir leaf extract was obtained by remaceration method using 96% ethanol. The cream was made in 7 formulas wherein formula 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively consisted concentration emulgator of tween 80 and span 60 in 0,5:5; 5:0,5; 2,5:2,5; 1,25:3,75; 3,75:1,25. Formula 6 as a negative control and formula 7 as a positive control. The results showed that formula 2 had the highest antioxidant activity followed by 5, 3, 4 and 1 respectively were 117.629 ppm, 129.570 ppm, 130.049 ppm, 130.986 ppm and 141.873 ppm. The test results showed that formula 2, 3 and 5 cream have good physical quality stability. Different variations of emulgator concentration of tween 80 and span 60 give different effect to the stability of physical quality and antioxidant activity of cream of leaf extract of kenikir.
