Abstract

Alang-alang root (Imperata cylindrica L) is a plant that has a hemostatic effect. Hemostatic is a mechanism to stop and prevent the occurrence of bleeding. This study aims to determine the hemostatic activity and the most optimal dose of ethanolic extract of purslane herbs. This study used 25 male white mice which were divided into 5 groups, negative control (CMC-Na), positive control (Tranexamic Acid 65 mg / kg bw), ethanolic extract of alang-alang root with a dose of 280 mg, 560 mg, and 1.120 mg / kg bw. Induction used heparin at a dose of 650 mg/kg bw subcutaneously for 5 days. All data were tested by Shapiro-Wilk to determine the normality of the data, then analyzed by the One Way ANOVA test which was then followed by the Tukey HSD test. The results showed that administration of ethanol extract of alang-alang root increased APTT time and increased platelet cells in male white mice. The effective dose of ethanolic extract of alang-alang root that can reduce APTT time and increase platelets count is at the dose of 280 mg/kg bw.
