Abstract

Kastuba leaves (Euphorbia pulcherimma Willd) an patikan kebo herbs (Euphorbia hirta L) are plants that are empirically used as traditional medicines and contain fat, starch, sulfur, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, anthocyanins. This study aims to determine the effect of lactagogum on the combination of kastuba leaf and patikan kebo herbs extracts and the effect on the mammary glands of wistar rats. This study used test animals which were divided into 8 treatment groups. Oral administration of sodium CMC suspension as a negative control (I), suspension of extract with a single dose of kastuba leaf extract 200 mg/ KgBB (II), single patikan kebo herb extract 81,24 mg/ KgBB (III), IV dose, V, VI consists of a combination of kastuba leaf and patikan kebo herb extract 50 mg/kg BB : 60,93 mg/kg BB; 100 mg/kg BB : 40,62 mg/kg BB; 150 mg/kg BB : 20,31 mg/kg BB, and moloco® as positive control (VII), and virgin rat as normal controls (VIII). Weighing the baby’s weight before and after breastfeeding is done every day for 14 days. On the 20th day, the mammary gland of the mother of rats were observed. The result of this study were analyzed using the one way Anova method. The results of this study were that the three combinations of kastuba leaf and patikan kebo herb extracts had an effect as lactagogum, had an influence on the increase in baby rat’s weight (p < 0,05). The dose that has equal effect with positive control is a combination of kastuba leaf 150 mg/ KgBB and patikan kebo herb 20,31 mg/ KgBB. The three groups of combination extracts had significantly different amounts of alveoli with negative controls and virgin rat groups, but not significantly different fram positive controls, which meant that the combination of kastuba leaf and patikan kebo herb extracts had the same effect as the positive control group.
