Abstract
Bay leaves are known to have activity as an antifungal for skin fungus. Chemical content of leaves are flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroids. flavonoids and steroid having activity as an antifungal. This study was conducted to determine the activity of the ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water leaves as antifungals against Pityrosporum ovale ATCC 3179, to determine the MFC and MIC views of fractions most active against fungi Pityrosporum ovale ATCC 3179 and to determine the diameter of inhibition zone of The most-active fraction of the fungus Pityrosporum ovale ATCC 3179. The extraction and fractionation test antifungal activity against Pityrosporum ovale using the diffusion method, to determine the most active fraction. The concentration of extracts and fractions are used for diffusion is 50%, 25% and 12.5%. Diffusion test results followed by a dilution test, to determine MFC series with a concentration of 50%; 25%; 12.5%; 6.25%; 3.125%; 1.56%; 0.78%; 0.39%; 0.19% and 0.09%. The most active fraction was tested by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The diameter of inhibition zone most active against fungi Pityrosporum ovale ATCC 3179 is ethyl acetate fraction of 15.8 ± 0,45mm at a concentration of 50%. Minimum Fugisidal Concentration (MFC) ethyl acetate fractions antifungal activity against fungi Pityrosporum ovale ATCC 3179sebesar 25%. TLC shows the ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoids and steroids. Keywords: antifungal, bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp.), diffusion, dilution, Pityrosporum ovale ATCC 3179
