Abstract
Sembukan leaves (Paederia scandens (Lour) Merr) are plants that are empirically used as traditional medicines and have chemical compounds including essential oils, alkaloids, steroids, saponins, and flavonoids. One of the activities shown by flavonoids is anti-inflammatory. Acetosal is an anti-inflammatory drug that can cause side effects of gastric mucosal disorders. This research aims to determine the antiinflammatory activity of sembukan leaf extract and the effect of duration use of acetosal and leaf extracts on the stomach of male white rats. The study of anti-inflammatory activity was carried out by giving carrageenan as the cause of inflammation in the soles of male white rats, then administering the suspension of sembukan ethanol extract (Paederia scandens (Lour) Merr) at a dose of 250 mg/kg BB, sodium CMC as negative and acetosal as positive control. Measurements were carried out every 1 hour for 6 hours and at 24 hours after carrageenan was induced. Histopathological study used 27 male white rats. Test animals were divided into negative control groups (I) and treatment groups. The treatment group was divided into groups of rats given acetosal 90 mg/kg BB (II) and rats given sembukan leaf extract 250 mg/kg BB (III). Groups I, II and III are terminated on the 10th, 15th, and 20th days. Sembukan leaf extract obtained at a dose of 250 mg / kg BB had a decrease in inflammation percentage of 67,32% and a statistical test was obtained at 0,003 (<0,05) which showed that sembukan leaf extract significantly affected inflammation. Sembukan leaf extract at a dose of 250 mg / kg BB is safe to use until the use of 20 days of statistical tests obtained 0,079 (> 0,05) means that there is no significant effect of giving leaf extract to epigastric distress.
