Abstract

Depression is a disease that is associated with the natural feeling with accompanying symptoms. The rapid growing globalization led to increased levels of depression that can be treated by antidepressants. Ruta angustifolia [L.] press is known to have extracts and essential oil that are important in the drug development content as an antidepressant. This research was conducted to test whether the essential oil from inggu leaf have an antidepressant effect, concentration and how much concentration that can provide the best effect, in addition to know relation of an increased concentration of inggu leaf oil on increased motor activity and the concentration. This study used 20 male white mice induced with ultrasonic frequency of 26 kHz and will be divided by 5 groups. Test preparation given by inhalation, especially evaporation methods that works by freeing molecules. After being given an induction, an observation of motor activity was carried out with parameters of motor activity time and the amount of displacement and concentration with parameter latency time. The results showed that the inggu leaf have antidepressant activity to the white male mice. From the concentration variants of 0.5, 1 and 2% concentration of essential oils that have the potential to increase motor activity is 0.5% concentration but cannot increase concentration in addition, increase in the concentration does not affect on increasing motor activity and concentration.
