Abstract

Anopheles is an important vector in tropical diseases in Indonesia, namely malaria. One of the most common ways to eradicate mosquitoes is to use insecticides. The use of chemical insecticides which aimed to kill adult mosquitoes also raises its own problems, namely the emergence of mosquito resistance and toxic effects on humans. Therefore, alternative insecticides that are safer to the environment are needed from plants. The Cyperus rotundus tuber is one of the alternatives. Cyperus rotundus tuber had the potential as a natural insecticide against anopheles mosquitoes. This research is an experimental study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 repetitions. The concentrations used were 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 150 ppm, positive control (Abate) and negative controls with a total of 700 eggs. Observations were carried out for 48 hours, eggs that did not hatch after more than 48 hours will be calculated using the Shapiro-Wilk test with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney. The results showed that the Cyperus rotundus tuber essential oil had ovicidal activity obtained with LC50 values of 20,37 ppm and LC90 values of 141,33 ppm. The obtained results indicate that the Cyperus rotundus tuber essential oil can become a potential source of natural mosquito agents.
