Abstract

Banana hump (Musa paradisiaca L.) and papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) contain compounds of flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins. The content has activity as an antibacterial. The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of extracts of the combination of banana hump and papaya leaf on the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Banana hump powder and papaya leaf were extracted separately by maceration method using 70% ethanol. Banana hump weed extract and papaya leaf are combined with three comparisons (1: 1), (1: 3), (3: 1). Each comparison was tested by the diffusion method. Furthermore, a dilution method is used to determine the value of MBC (Minimum Kill Concentration) with series concentration 50%; 25%; 6.25%; 3.12%; 1.56%; 0.78%; 0.39%; 0.19%; 0.09%. The diffusion test showed that the combination of banana hump extract and papaya leaf had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. In the diffusion test the most effective ratio is 3: 1 with the diameter of the inhibition zone of 11,58 mm. Minimum inhibitory concentration (concentration of concentration) is not visible and the minimum kill concentration (MBC) is 25%. Keywords: Antibacterial, banana hump, papaya leaf, combination, Staphylococcus aureus.
