Abstract

Ciplukan herb (Cape gooseberry) (Physalis angulat L.) is a shrub plant that can be used to lower blood pressure. Hypertension is a persistent increase of blood pressure above the normal level of 120/80 mmHg. This research aimed to find out antihypertensive activity of water extract and the effective dosage by measuring systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Ciplukan herb water extract contains flavonoid compound as antihypertensive agent obtained using infundation extraction method followed with frezee drying. The tested animal used was Sprague-Dawley rats induced with prednisone and NaCl per oral for 42 days, divided into 5 groups: negative control, positive control, with extract dose of 7 mg/kg BW, 15 mg/kg BW, and 30 mg/kg BW. The data was analyzed using statistical analysis to find out the normality. The result of research showed that Ciplukan herb water extract can lower blood pressure in Sprague-Dawley rats induced with prednisone and NaCl. Dose of 7 mg/kg BW could effectively lower the blood pressure. Keywords: ciplukan, hypertension, systolic, diastolic, prednisolone and NaCl
