Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition that occurs when the body cannot produce enough insulin which is characterized by hyperglycemia. In patients with diabetes mellitus blood glucose levels increase and the levels of the enzyme GPx (Glutathione Peroxidase) as endogenous antioxidants decrease. Flavonoids are one of the most common metabolites found in plant tissue, it is known that some of the flavonoid compounds contained in plants have antioxidant properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of sintrong leaf extract in reducing blood glucose levels and increasing enzyme activity. GPx (Glutathione Peroxidase) in experimental animals induced by alloxan in the dose of 150 mg / kg body weight. Sintrong leaf extract was made using maceration method using 96% ethanol. 30 male white wistar rats were divided into 6 treatment groups, namely the normal group, negative control of CMC-Na 0.5%, comparison group (glibenclamide) 0.045mg / kg BB, extract group with doses of 75, 150 and 300 mg / kg body weight. The results of this study indicate that the average glucose levels of doses of 75, 150 and 300 mg / kg BB are 148.703 mg / dl; 122,929 mg / dl and 115,56 mg / dl. The average levels of the GPx enzyme (Glutathione Peroxidase) amounted to 28.24 U / mg, 36.89 U / mg, and 58.34 U / mg. The effective dose of sintrong leaf extract is 75 mg / kg body weight.
