Abstract
Burns are tissue damage or loss caused by contact with head sources such as fire, hot water, chemicals, electricity and radiation. Green tea leaves (Camelia sinensis O.K. var assamica (Mast.) contains epigallocatechin-3-gallat (EGCG) which has anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidants and improves healing of burns. This study aims to prove the green tea leaves methanol extract can be formulated into ointments with good physical quality, has activities for healing burns and knows the effective base of oinment in burns. Ointment of green tea leaf extract methanol was made in three formula concentrations hydrocarbon bases of 50:50, 70:30 and 90:10. Tested for physical properties organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, dispersion, adhesion and pH. Burn healing activity test carried out on the backs of New Zealand rabbits. Wound healing measurement results were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance. Green tea leaf extract methanol with a comparison of vaseline and paraffin bases (FII) and 90:10 (FIII) can be formulated into ointments with good physical quality and has an effect on healing burns, of the two formulas that are the most effective as a burn medicine are FIII (90:10). Keywords: green tea leaf extract methanol, ointments, burns, rabbit.
