Abstract

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicon L.) is kind of fruit which contains flavonoid compound, fenol, and vitamin C serving as antioxidant as it capable to eliminate and reduce oxidizing agent species. This research the effect of increasing concentration of tomato’s ethanol extract toward antioxidant activity in a lotion. Tomato ethanol extract was obtained through the method of maceration using ethanol 70%. Lotion of ethanol extract were examined in 5 formulas, F1 (control negative), F2 (control positive), F3, F4, and F5 each contained of 15%, 20%, 25%. Antioxidant activity was conducted through the method of DPPH free radical damping by calculating the value of IC50 . the lotion was also went through physical quality examination including organoleptic, emulsi type, homogeneity, pH, stickiness, viscosity, and cycling test. The results showed tomato ethanol extract possesses antioxidant activity in the value of IC50 55,04 ppm and to be processed into lotion. The result of antioxidant activity of tomato extract showed that F5 had the strongest activity followed by F4, F3 that are 191,40 ppm, 388,55 ppm, and 536,91 ppm respectively. Results of research, it can be concluded that the higher the concentration of tomato ethanol extract being added, the IC50 value of the will be lower.
