Abstract

Dental caries is one of the dental disease that a lot of happen in Indonesia. The main bacterium that cause dental caries is Streptococcus mutans. Soursop leaf (Annona muricata L.) and avocado leaf (Persea americana Mill.) are contain of flavonoid, alkaloids, tannin and saponin that have activity as antibacterial. This research purpose to know the combination antibacterial activity ethanol extract of soursop and avocado leaves on Streptococcus mutansATCC 35668 with various comparisons. Soursop leaf and avocado leaf were extracted use maceration method using 70% ethanol. Soursop leaf extract and avocado leaves combined with a comparison (1:1); (1:2) and (2:1), made with 50% concentration and positive control is ciprofloxacin, this research done as diffusion and bioautography. The results of the antibacterial activity test showed that the combination of soursop leaf extract and avocado leaf had antibacterial activity against the Streptococcus mutans in comparison (1:1); (1:2) and (2:1). The most effective comparison is (2:1) at a concentration of 50% having an average diameter of the inhibition zone of 22.33 mm. The group of compounds that can inhibit the antibacterial activity of Streptococcus mutans by bioautography is flavonoids shows a clear zone at Rf 0.8 and the diameter of the inhibition zone is 5 mm.
